The outfits I have thrifted and where to shop
Ah, yes, the reason you are all here, you're trying to copy my swag. All jokes aside, thrifting clothing is arguably the main reason people choose to thrift. A lot of people thrift for financial reasons, myself included. I just can't justify paying $14 for a baby tee anymore, sorry! But as I've previously mentioned, thrifting is also a way to elevate your style.
Now, I am no fashionista by any stretch of the imagination, but I have had many a fashion phase (most notably my granny-core era, or my painted flannel era). But, thrifting does make it easy to try out new things with clothing and find something that you never would have worn before. For instance, I bought a pair of cowboy boots at Goodwill the other day for $10. I googled the boots and they retail for $200! I've never considered wearing cowboy boots in my life, but when I tell you I put them on, and something awoke in me. Now I've been listening to folk country music all week, so you never know!
Thrifting clothing is pretty straightforward. Stains? Don't buy it. Stinky? Don't buy it. But if you're looking for something specific, especially something vintage, there are some things to look out for. Seasoned thrifters or resellers know what to look for, but one thing you can do is look at the tags. Reseach the tag, sometimes they're dated, or you can research the type of tag and find out how old the item is. Another thing you can do is to look at the stitching on the item, for vintage t-shirts, they have a double-stitch that modern tees don't have anymore. For Levis, there are numbers on the tag that will tell you the age of the item
Pay by the pound places are the best to get clothing, the Goodwill outlet is probably the most popular becuase they are all around the U.S.. It's a pay by the pound system, so you can get a lot for really cheap, but the downside is that it tends to be very competitive. Personally, I avoid the outlet because of how crowded it gets, and I get overwhelmed, but I strongly recommend going there still.
